What is Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers are products that are injected just under the skin to fill lines, folds and wrinkles that appear on the face with age.

What areas can be treated with Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used in a variety of ways but typically they are used to fill and soften lines and folds on the face, around the mouth, lips and eyes.

Dermal Fillers can also be used to replace volume in the face in a procedure known as facial recontouring.

Other areas of the body such as the hands and décolleté can be treated using dermal fillers to restore volume and rejuvenate the skin.

What are Dermal Fillers made of?

With so many Dermal Fillers on the market they can be made of a variety of ingredients. Commonly Dermal Fillers are comprised of a synthetic form of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is found in humans and animals and is in abundance in a plump youthful face but decreases as we age. Dermal Fillers that contain Hyaluronic acid have extremely low instances of allergic reaction and can be dissolved if required. We do use other Dermal Fillers that are made from other ingredients and your practitioner will explain these to you.

Can Dermal Fillers be used in the Lips?

Lips can be beautifully enhanced using Dermal Fillers. Just a little volume may be required to restore ageing lips or balance asymmetry i.e. top or bottom lips out of balance or one side of the lip narrower that the other. It may be the 'smokers lines' around the lips that need to be treated or just the outline of the lip. Whatever the outcome required Dermal Fillers can be used to achieve a lovely effect.

How do Dermal Fillers work?

We create fine lines and wrinkles during movement of the facial muscles. These lines are seen when we move and over time will form permanent wrinkles even when the face is at rest. This combined with the natural ageing process and the break down of the collagen and elastin fibres which provide strength and support to the face causes the formation of lines and wrinkles. Dermal Fillers can be placed underneath the wrinkle or fold to lift the skin and restore its youthful appearance.

Are Dermal Fillers going to get rid of my lines completely?

There are varying depths of lines and wrinkles and as such there are varying thicknesses of filler. Your practitioner will be able to assess which filler will be most suitable and how many syringes will be required to achieve a satisfactory result. Repeated treatments can very often achieve greater correction with longer lasting results.

How long will it last?

Generally most Hyaluronic acid fillers will last between 6-12 months. However there are some longer lasting Dermal Fillers that can last up to 18 months. Your practitioner will be able to advise you on which one is best suited to you.

What is Hyaluronic acid?

This is a naturally occurring substance found in humans and animals. It gives the skin its plumpness and as we age it decreases, contributing to the ageing process. It also acts as a humectant which means that it attracts water so can be used to rejuvenate the skin and restore volume. Derma Fillers use a synthetic form of Hyaluronic acid with very low instances of allergic reaction.

How soon will I see the results?

You will instantly see a difference. There may be a little swelling and more so with lip enhancements but this will resolve within a few days.

Will the procedure hurt?

This is a little more uncomfortable than having Botox. However we can make it more comfortable by applying topical anesthetic before the procedure as well as dental blocks when treating the mouth and lips.

If I don't like the effect what can I do?

If you are a little unsure about having the procedure we can in some cases do a temporary filler that will last between 24 hours and two weeks and this will give you a much better idea if you will like a longer lasting effect.

Can I return to my normal activities after the treatment?

Dermal fillers can give a temporary swelling and redness but this can easily be covered with make up and most clients are happy to continue with their normal activities. With lip enhancements there may be a little more swelling and some clients like to wait for this to resolve before they go about their normal activities.

How much will it cost?

Our Filler procedures range in price according to quantity and type used. Remember we do have promotional offers. We also offer package prices for our combination treatments, facial recontouring and when having multiple syringes.

Are there any side effects?

With any injectable there is always the risk of bruising and at worst a haematoma (severe bruising). This is extremely rare and most clients have a slight reddening and once this is covered with medicated make up, leave the clinic and show little or no signs that they have had any treatment.

The aftercare instructions should be followed to avoid complication following the treatment.

Is it a safe procedure?

This is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures and there are very few problems experienced with Dermal Fillers. Safety data is available on each product and any risks will be explained by the practitioner during your consultation.

Is there any after care advice that I should follow?

If you think of a Dermal Filler as wet concrete thats needs to 'set' therefore we advise patients to try and keep the area as still as possible for 24-48 hours. The area can be massaged gently after treatment but your practitioner will advise you on specific aftercare.

What range of Dermal Fillers do you offer?

We offer a range of Fillers that can be used for different areas of the face and body and to suit different budgets.

Nancy 52 years, Hairdressers Receptionist , from Suffolk , says:

Treated with Restylane around the mouth and nose

I work in a very young fashion orientated environment and I really started to feel my age. What I hated most was the corners of my mouth had started to turn downwards giving me a really miserable look. When youre dealing with the public in a very image conscious industry it puts a lot of pressure on you to look your best. I went to Lucy and she recommended putting fillers to turn up the mouth corners and fill the lines running from the corners of my nose to mouth. I was absolutely delighted with the results which were instant. It took years off my age and my confidence soared. I had so many positive comments which is great at my age because they are usually few and far between. Its definitely something I will keep up.

Jackie 34 year old Estate Agent, from Essex, says:

Lip enhancement.

I always disliked the shape of my lips they were thin and not very even. With all the publicity about celebrities having the so called trout pout I was a little worried about having the procedure. My friend suggested I go and visit Glancey Medical and have a consultation. They reassured me that the products used would last approximately 6 months so were definitely not permanent and even if I really disliked the look they could be reversed immediately. The Doctor suggested I start with cinderella lips which is a temporary lip filler only lasting 2 weeks so I could really see if I liked the effects. I loved them and decided to go for the lip enhancement. The staff reassured me and took their time explaining everything to me so I felt really comfortable. I am so glad I have had them done I don't look done and they look really natural and I feel so sexy!
