Micro-Needling is becoming a very popular procedure with results similar to that of chemical peels and resurfacing. This is a fabulous and unique way of delivering therapies to the skin for in the office and at home.
How is Micro needling done and how does it work?
Micro-needling is done with a roller that is covered with numerous tiny needles that penetrate the skin by 1mm. The roller is moved over the skin several times causing tiny puncture impression in the skin. The injury that results stimulates a healing process which brings about fibroblast stimulation that results in collagen production. The procedure can be effective at reducing the appearance of acne scars
and wrinkles. Micro-needling has even been shown to improve pigmentation when used in conjunction with topical creams.
Before Micro Needling
After Micro Needling
What will I look like after the treatment?
The treatment begins with a thorough cleansing of the skin, a topical anaesthetic is then applied to the skin to numb the area. The micro-needling rollers can then be used on the skin without minimal discomfort. The skin will probably look red and swollen for two to three days. Within a week or two, you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking but the full affects would be seen 2-3 months later.
How many treatments will I need?
Micro-needling can be safely repeated every few months until you achieve the desired results. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments, and the extent of the damage at the beginning. Most people will begin to see results after the very first appointment.
Who is suitable for the treatment?
Skin micro-needling can be safely performed on all skin types and all skin colours. As the epidermis and in particular, melanocytes in the basal area are left intact. There is minimal risk of pigment change or post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. Skin micro-needling can treat sensitive areas that are difficult to treat with other procedures. These areas include the eyes, the neck and the back of the hands.
